Long time no see. I just posted a huge update with all my new work blog posts, including one  (well, two) on wild blueberries, one on exercising like a kid, and an interview with long-distance hiker Jenni Thompson.

In life stuff, we went to Japan (I fell in love with the food and lost 10 pounds!), and a Star Trek convention in Vegas, and New York for Male Pattern Boldness Day (I'm in the second row in that photo, in my roketsu-dyed Japanese t-shirt). If you want to see photos from all these lovely trips and more, come find me on Instagram.

In sewing news, I made a reversible Alabama Chanin Classic Jacket and wore it on all 3 of the above trips. I love their fabric so much. Given all the recent changes, I hope the company's doing okay.

That's the news for now!

Why I love my job

I get to write blog posts on axe-throwing and more axe-throwing. And Wonder Woman.

Also, when I tell my (awesome) boss, "Hey, I'm going to Iceland and I want to go on a glacier walk; does that count as an activity and can I write about it?" of course she says yes.

(Still trying to work out the logistics on that one. But I will be at Iceland Airwaves next week!)

Anna Heylen in Vogue Patterns

5/18/2018

My article on Maison Anna Heylen is in the June/July issue of Vogue Patterns Magazine.
Picture
It includes instructions on making her accordion-pleat puff sleeve, which I  can't wait to add to a garment (after I practice some more).

I've loved Anna's work for a long time, and I'm so happy to have the opportunity to profile her for Vogue Patterns—one of my favorite sewing magazines. This took around a year to put together, and Anna, her daughter, and the Vogue Patterns editors were fantastic to work with.

Anyway. Sewing nerd squee!

Hi there!

I've started a lovely six-month contract as Senior Copywriter and Editor at Nokia. And I get to work with a longtime friend and former colleague from Court TV! (Hi, Susie.)

Check out one of my spiffy taglines!

I'll also be writing and editing for the Nokia Health Blog. Yay.

Cheers!

Happy New Year!

I'm still here. Hope you all are well.

Updates: I finished up my six-month contract at MFS Investment Management in November (they were great! I miss them!), and then I went to Paris. I bought a museum pass and went to as many as I could. Here's the Orsay!

Is that not amazing? I thought about not going because I'm not really that into the Impressionists, but I'm glad I did.

And now I'm back, hunkered down in Massachusetts in January (please send flannel pants and a vat of moisturizer) and looking for work. Here's my resume if you want to see what I've been up to.

Mill River Consulting launch

Excited to announce the launch of the new website for Mill River Consulting, an environmental consulting firm in Gloucester. We've worked together over the last six months or so to put together a site with completely updated and revised content and new custom photos featuring their projects and the gorgeous North Shore landscape (all taken by them—they're great photographers!)

Best of all, it's all within their new branding, incorporating their new logo and color scheme (created by LIMA Design), and new tagline.

We collaborated in Weebly to make it happen, starting with a template and then customizing as needed. I cannot say enough good things about Weebly's customer service during this process, too.

Congratulations to Mill River (and woohoo!)

My Halloween recap for Rue Morgue is up!

I swear the costumes get freakier and more intense every year. It's hard to pick a favorite, but it might have to be the wolf just hanging out in broad daylight outside the Peabody Essex Museum.

I had a great old time in Amsterdam and bought too much fabric. Here's The Seamworker's Guide to Amsterdam, and a post with more pics is up on my sewing blog.

And here's a pic of the Jordaan.
