This is how you do Twitter, all brands everywhere.

(Can't stop laughing. Even though that pizza looks horrible.)

In other news, I have another Seamwork story coming up. Should be posted this weekend.

My article on how to get started with natural dyeing is in the latest issue of Seamwork from Colette Patterns. (Wow, they found some great pictures.)

I also have an addendum (with photos) up at my sewing blog here.

I'm going to try to make this a regular thing (at the very least, so I can keep track of stuff I'm reading  so I can find it again).

  • #RaceTogether: 3 Reasons Behind Starbucks' Failure: This guy nails it. I'll never understand why companies think it's a great idea to tie their campaigns to big issues. (Or, for that matter, flash-in-the-pan popular stuff like trying to capitalize on the white/gold/blue/black dress thing days after everyone was already sick of it.) I guess it can work, but most of the time it just comes across as tone-deaf and stupid.
  • The Dubious, Brand-Led Surge of Fake National Holidays: Great reporting here. I read this after I posted the National Pie Day link and now I feel kind of bad about it.
  • The Remarkable Rise and Fall of McDonald's CEO Don Thompson:  Interesting (and sad) story that makes some good points—namely, that McDonald's keeps trying to be a combination Starbucks/Pizza Hit/Chipotle instead of actually listening to its customers.

That's the news for now.

Seriously. And I had no idea there's an American Pie Council.

(Hey, American Pie Council, hire me. I'll redo your website and take out that nasty title case. In exchange for PIE.)

I'd like to thank the Hollywood Foreign Press (and Tina Fey) for using "comprises" correctly during the Golden Globes. Also, Matt Bomer, thank you for using "continually" correctly.

As my ex-manager from Bloomingdale's would say, it warmed the cackles of my heart. Ball's in your court, Oscars.

As that thing off to the right says, this right here is the place for me to post stuff related to marketing, editing, and all things content- and copy-related. It's gonna be fun.
